A Visitor’s Guide to Hostels In Waikiki

Located on the south shore of Honolulu, the world-famous neighborhood of Waikiki was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty. Known in Hawaiian as "spouting waters", Waikiki was introduced to the world when its first hotel, the Moana Surfrider, was built on its shores in 1901.



Today, Waikiki is Oahu’s main hostel and resort area, a vivacious gathering place for visitors from around the world. Along the main strip of Kalakaua Avenue you'll get to relish world-class shopping, dining, entertainment, activities and nightlife.

Waikiki hostels comprise of eight dorm rooms with four to six beds in each with privacy curtains in every female and 4-bed dorms.

Each guest will get a lockable storage locker along with the room, although if you have chosen the lowest cost dorms from these travel websites, the storage locker won’t be available.

Majority of hostels in Waikiki follow the following rules.

  • Reception is open from 8 am till midnight.
  • Check-in time is from noon and check out is 11 am sharp. Delays won’t be entertained. 
  • There is no charge for bed linens and towels.
  • Toilets and bathrooms are mixed except in the female dorms.
  • Luggage storage and free shower for those with late flights.
  • laundry & drying service is available. 
  • No guests under the age of 18 will be allowed.
